Prayer of the Day

Friday 11 April 2025

1921
Bert Hinkler flies from Sydney to Bundaberg non-stop, breaking his own long-distance record.

1979
Ugandan dictator Idi Amin is overthrown.

We acknowledge the traditional owners and custodians of the land on which we stand and their living culture. We pay our respects to them for their care of the land and pay tribute to the unique role they play in the life of this region. May we walk gently and respectfully upon the land.

Call to Prayer

Amen, Amen I say to you:
Unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies,
it remains a single grain.
But if it dies, it bears much fruit.

Amen, Amen I say to you:
Unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies,
it remains a single grain.
But if it dies, it bears much fruit.

Scripture

John 10: 39 – 42

They tried yet again to arrest him, but he slipped through their fingers. He went back across the Jordan to the place where John first baptised, and stayed there. A lot of people followed him over. They were saying, “John did no miracles, but everything he said about this man has come true.” Many believed in him then and there.

Primary Daily Prayer

I love you, O Lord, my strength. (Ps. 18: 2) Strength is not just physical. We are strong in character when we make good choices. We are strong in faith when we overcome our doubt and trust in God. We are strong inside when we do not give in to worries or negative talk. Strength is defined as being strong, having power and force or being able to endure great pressure. But we don’t rely on our strength alone. God is always there to strengthen us when we find it hard to be wise, faithful, confident and courageous.

Loving God, please strengthen us today. Help us to rely on you. Amen.

Secondary Daily Prayer

Living God, all things are possible with you. We are worried that you would lead us to places we didn’t want to go. Remembering the times we deliberately chose to turn and walk the other way, we pray that our choice of whether or not to follow will be different the next time you point the way. Not our will, but your will. Amen.

Please help me …

Staff Daily Prayer

Living God, all things are possible with you. Lent reminds us that sometimes life is a challenge. May today’s struggles remind us that human beings were made to depend on God and on one another. Not our will, but your will. Amen.
