Prayer of the Day
Saint Patrick
2000
More than 500 die by fire in a mass suicide by a doomsday cult in Uganda.
We acknowledge the traditional owners and custodians of the land on which we stand and their living culture. We pay our respects to them for their care of the land and pay tribute to the unique role they play in the life of this region. May we walk gently and respectfully upon the land.
Glory to you, Word of God, Lord Jesus Christ!
Glory to you, Word of God, Lord Jesus Christ!
Glory to you, Word of God, Lord Jesus Christ!
Glory to you, Word of God, Lord Jesus Christ!
If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
Glory to you, Word of God, Lord Jesus Christ!
Glory to you, Word of God, Lord Jesus Christ!

Jesus said, “The first in importance is, ‘Listen, Israel: The Lord your God is one; so love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence and energy’. And here is the second: ‘Love others as well as you love yourself’. There is no other commandment that ranks with these”.
There shall be no strange god among you nor shall you worship an alien god. (P 81: 10) Patrick lived about 400 years after Jesus in the area that is now England or Wales. One day he was captured and taken to Ireland as a slave. His life was hard, but he kept his faith in God and finally escaped. At home, safe and sound, Patrick had a vision of the Irish people calling him back to bring the Gospel to them. Patrick became a priest, and he returned to Ireland. He won the Irish people to Christ with his courage and wise teachings. He is probably the most beloved saint and leader in Ireland.
Jesus, inspire us to share the Gospel like Saint Patrick. Amen.

Holy One of Israel, we pray for the women and men who boldly speak out against war and who remind us that there must be another way – please, there must be another way. You have called them by name: they are yours. Amen.

Loving God, you understand that it is not just the big things that get us down, that bring us to tears. And so we ask you to be present as we work to be free of everything that holds us down today … everything that keeps us from having the day you imagined for us when we were created. Amen.

We will go, O Lord, where you would have us go,
and we will do what you would have us do.
