The Gospel

Matthew 13:44

Jesus continued, “God’s kingdom is like a treasure hidden in a field for years and then accidently found by a trespasser. The finder is ecstatic – what a find! – and proceeds to sell everything he owns to raise money and buy that field.”

The Action

Today’s parable points to the value of what God offers us in God’s kingdom, in our relationship with God. This relationship is like a treasure, buried in a field, or like a precious pearl. We who have discovered the gift of a relationship with the Lord must do what we can to help others find this treasure.

Today’s final parable can invite us to learn more about the treasures, old and new, in our faith tradition. Make this as a family to study the saints, who are wonderful examples of true friendship with God. Choose one saint from the early Church and one saint from more modern history to reflect on the different models – both old and new – that the Church offers to help us grow in our relationship with God.
