(Matthew 17: 1 – 4)

Jesus took Peter and the brothers, James and John, and led them up a high mountain. His appearance changed from the inside out, right before their eyes, Sunlight poured from his face. His clothes were filled with light. Then they realised that Moses and Elijah were also there in deep conversation with him. Peter broke in, “Master, this is a great moment! What would you think if we built three dwellings here on the mountain – one for you, one for Moses, one for Elijah?”

Primary Daily Prayer

“You’re making that up,” Matt says when Jack tells him about his buzzer-beating three-point shot that won yesterday’s game. “It’s true,” Jack says. “I don’t get much playing time, but I made that shot”. Matt still can’t believe it until Jack shows him the video game. Peter didn’t have videos to prove the amazing things he saw Jesus do. But filled with the Holy Spirit, he preached about Jesus so that many thousands of people became believers. For us, too, God shines light in our hearts so that we can believe!

Jesus, I believe you are the Son of God who shines light on the whole world. Amen.

Secondary Daily Prayer

God of light, may we be surrounded by people who bring out the light within us, and who inspire us to make that light shine. We pray that, in sharing our gifts, others will witness our light and recognise its brilliance as being grounded in Jesus. May our words and actions help others to come to know the power of Jesus’ love and lead all into a deeper relationship with him. Amen.

Staff Daily Prayer

Providing God, by your Spirit feed us with your Word, that we might be filled with the light of life.

Go out now and be a witness in all that you say and do, spreading the good news that God’s grace is a gift freely given. May God be gracious to you and give you peace, now and forevermore. Amen.
