We pause to recognise the First Peoples of this land, whose story and spirit continue to shape this place. We honour their deep relationship with Country and the wisdom passed down through the generations. As we share this land today, may we act with gratitude, humility and respect.

Call to Prayer

 

Living Word of God, words of faith and love,
the words of Sacred Scripture giving meaning to our lives.

Living Word of God, where God reveals to us
an unending love for all as we encounter Jesus Christ.

God’s Word will always be the light that guides our lives,
to show the way to live as we journey on our way.
God’s Word will always be the light that guides our lives,
through every day, God’s Word will burn in us.

Scripture

Matthew 13: 47 – 50

Jesus continued, “God’s kingdom is like a fishnet cast into the sea, catching all kinds of fish. When it is full, it is hauled onto the beach. The good fish are picked out and put in a tub; those unfit to eat are thrown away. That’s how it will be when the curtain comes down on history. The angels will come and cull the bad fish and throw them in the garbage. There will be a lot of desperate complaining, but it won’t do any good.”

Primary Daily Prayer

Another of Jesus’ parables – and what a beautiful one this is! Think of a fisherman gathering fish and sea creatures of all kinds – tiny starfish, colourful seahorses, gigantic swordfish and many more. Imagine God gathering all of God’s people from all over the earth: tall, short, rich, poor, sick, well, old, young, saints and sinners. Jesus tells us that at the end of time, God will separate those who follow the commandments from those who do not. Notice that Jesus says this separating is God’s job, not ours. Until then, our job is to get along “swimmingly” with all of God’s people and love as God loves.

Generous God, help us to follow your ways.
