Prayer of the Day

Saint Joseph
1911
The first International Women’s Day is observed in several European countries.
We pause to recognise the First Peoples of this land, whose story and spirit continue to shape this place. We honour their deep relationship with Country and the wisdom passed down through the generations. As we share this land today, may we act with gratitude, humility and respect.
Into the desert I will lead;
here in the silence my word will speak.
And you will find the peace you seek
here in the desert.

The angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream … Then Joseph woke up. He did exactly what God’s angel commanded in the dream: He married Mary. He named the baby Jesus.
Joseph was a holy man. He knew that God loved him, and he believed in God’s plans. While Joseph was sleeping, God spoke to Joseph! In fact, it was in his dreams, usually through an angel, that Joseph received some of the most important information in his life. As a reminder of this, many people keep a statue of a sleeping Saint Joseph. Pope Francis once explained that when he was worried or stressed, he wrote notes and placed them beneath his sleeping Saint Joseph statue. He said, “That’s why I sleep well: It is the grace of God.”
Dear God, guide us day and night.

God living among us, today we remember Saint Joseph – a person of quiet strength and deep faith. Help us to be like Saint Joseph: to look out for others, to do the right thing even when it’s hard, and to bring out the best in the people around us. May our school be a place of kindness, courage, and respect. Saint Joseph, guide us. Amen.

Loving God, as we remember Saint Joseph, we give thanks for the quiet strength and faithful care he showed in daily life. In our work as educators, help us to be patient, wise, and compassionate. May we guide our students with kindness, encourage their gifts, and help bring out the best in each young person we encounter today. Amen.

We will go, O Lord, where you would have us go,
and we will do what you would have us do.
