Prayer of the Day

Tuesday 13 August 2024

1942
The Kokoda Track campaign during World War II began, involving Australian and Japanese forces in Papua New Guinea.

1961
East Germany began building the Berlin Wall to prevent citizens fleeing to the West.

We acknowledge the traditional owners and custodians of the land on which we stand and their living culture. We pay our respects to them for their care of the land and pay tribute to the unique role they play in the life of this region. May we walk gently and respectfully upon the land.

Call to Prayer

May God’s Word be in my thoughts,
May God’s Word be on our lips,
May God’s Word ever and always be in my heart.

This is my prayer. This is my prayer.
That the Word of God defines my life.
This is my prayer.

Scripture

Matthew 18: 1 – 3

The disciples came to Jesus asking, “Who gets the highest rank in God’s kingdom?” For an answer Jesus called over a child, whom he stood in the middle of the room, and said, “I’m telling you, once and for all, that unless you return to square one and start over like children, you’re not even going to get a look at the kingdom, let alone get in.”

Primary Daily Prayer

Think of the adults in your life who make sure you have a place to live, food to eat and clothes to wear. Young people depend on adults for lots of things. But young or old, we all depend on God. We need God for everything. Sometimes adults think they can take care of themselves on their own. But Jesus reminds us that we are all God’s children. We can’t do anything without God.

Generous God, we will always be your children. Amen.

Secondary Daily Prayer

We place ourselves into your hands, God our Creator, knowing that whatever difficulties we face, we can never be losers because nothing can ever separate us from your love. May we live in your peace this day. Amen.

Staff Daily Prayer

We leave this place to encounter the unknown today, Generous God, attentive to the hints of holy in glances and averted eyes, smiles and frowns, restful hands and shaky hands, laughing and weeping, leaving and coming back. May the God of all Israel’s children and all the children of the earth be with us as we go. Amen.

Today I will …
Please help me …

Commissioning

Now go, now go …
Go out and tell the world, let every nation hear my voice.
Now go, now go …
Go out and live my Word, let every nation know my love.
Now go, now go.
