Scripture

(Matthew 15: 21 – 22, 25, 28)

They had hardly arrived when a Canaanite woman came down from the hills and pleaded, “Mercy, Master. Son of David! My daughter is cruelly afflicted by an evil spirit”. Jesus ignored her … Then the woman came back to Jesus, went to her knees and begged. “Master, help me” … Jesus gave in. “Oh, woman, your faith is something else. What you want is what you get!” Right then her daughter became well.

Primary Daily Prayer

Why did Jesus ignore the woman? Had she done something wrong? Did Jesus feel she didn’t deserve an answer? No, Jesus is trying to tell us something. Remember the storm at sea story? Jesus slept in the boat, while the disciples thought they were going to die. They screamed and shouted at him to help. But this woman didn’t panic just because Jesus didn’t answer her prayer right away. She kept speaking to Jesus, never losing faith and hope. Sometimes we might feel like God doesn’t say a word in answer to our prayer. Do we panic or lose faith? No. God answers prayers in God’s time and way.

Faithful God, make my faith stronger every day. Amen.

Secondary Daily Prayer

God of life, as you lend me life, lend me a heart full of thankfulness, that I may treasure good friends and be appreciative of all who are part of my life. Inspire me each day to live positively and cheerfully, living in such a way that I express thanks and encouragement to others, so that, together, we may bring out the best in each other. Amen.

Staff Daily Prayer

God of daybreak, thank you for holding me through the night and awakening me to behold your likeness in this brand-new day. Go with me now as I walk with you. Show me the world and its people through your eyes of compassion. Bless me, break me, and move through me to heal and feed those who hunger for you. Amen.
