All Souls’ Day

John 6: 37 – 38

Jesus continued, “And once that person is with me, I hold on and don’t let go. I came down from heaven not to follow my own whim but to accomplish the will of the One who sent me.”

As All Souls’ Day approaches, we are reminded of the gift of remembering those who have gone before us and the hope we hold in Christ. Jesus assures us, “That everything handed over to me by the One who sent me is completed, not a single detail missed, and at the wrap-up of time I have everything and everyone put together, upright and whole” (John 6: 39). This promise is both comforting and challenging, it calls us to trust fully in God’s love and to share that hope with our students.

In the classroom, these words can become more than scripture, they can shape the way we guide young hearts. Many of our students have experienced loss or are beginning to wrestle with questions of mortality, and this passage reminds us that God’s care is steadfast, that every life is precious, and that death is not the end. We can help students reflect on the lives of those they have loved, to pray, to act with kindness, and to see the presence of God in everyday moments.

As educators, we have the privilege of bringing this hope to life. All Souls’ Day invites us to model faith, to weave the promise of resurrection into our teaching, and to help students see God’s love as real, immediate, and enduring. Let us take this opportunity to remind ourselves and our students that no one entrusted to Christ is lost, and that even in sorrow, we are held by a love that never lets go.
